MDB Transportation Placed Largest Kenworth EV Order to Date.
“Several years ago, we made the decision to begin adding trucks that run on alternative fuels to reduce our carbon footprint and to better assist our customers in meeting their sustainability goals,” – Jack Khudikyan, owner of MDB Transportation.
This is how a sustainability-driven transportation business began its journey in the trucking industry. Now we see it thrive towards success by integrating highly sustainable EVs into its transportation systems.
Today, MDB announces the largest Kenworth EV order placed to date – Jack Khudikyan ordered 10 Kenworth K270E and 15 Kenworth T680E battery electric vehicles (EVs) from Inland Kenworth – Montebello.
The order that Jack Khudikyan placed is a massive breakthrough in sustainable development for the trucking industry. Note that MDB Transportation, with AJR Trucking, pioneered in 2016 to add compressed natural gas (CNG) powered Kenworth T680E to its fleet, intending to reduce contamination of greenhouse gas emissions. Today, the company made it to such a large number – it’s genius!
As Jack Khudikyan mentioned, “It’s important to do what’s right for the environment, and we’re on a mission to, one day, achieve net-zero emissions. This order of Kenworth Class 6 and Class 8 battery electric vehicles will assist us in meeting that goal.”
Placing such a large order of electric vehicles is to make a change in the development of sustainable transportation systems. MDB Transportation plans to expand the scope of its operations to greater parts of the Los Angeles area. The plan includes reaching the Port of Los Angeles with drayage operations.
The financial possibility of such an initiative became a reality due to voucher incentives that the transportation business received through the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). Even parties involved in financial support of the initiative go after sustainability: HVIP, as a part of California Climate Investments, works towards greenhouse gas emissions reduction, economy strengthening, public health improvement, and environmental sustainability.
Both electric vehicles carry vital importance for developing sustainable transportation systems.
T680E – transformative day cab, tractor, or straight truck weighing 82,000 lb. with 150-mile operating range used for best transportation services, i.e., delivery, pickup, drayage applications, regional haul
K270E – electric powertrain with high-density 141kWh, 209kWh, 282kWh battery packs with up to 200-mile operating range used for pickup, delivery, short regional haul
The general manager of Kenworth and vice president of PACCAR, Kevin Baney, mentioned, “We take pride in Jack’s commitment to invest in Kenworth’s battery-electric models and be an early adopter of this new technology.”
